Monmouth Castle and Regimental Museum

Birthplace of Henry V. Castle was established by William fitz Osbern in the late 11th Century. It changed hands three times during the Civil War, witheld a short siege and was later largely demolished on orders from Cromwell, so not much remains. In the adjoining Great Castle House is a small volunteer-run museum telling the story of the Royal Monmouthshire Royal Engineers - the only present-day regiment to have survived from the militia.Opening Times: Daily April to October 2-5pm. Weekends November to March 2-4pm.
